Email can stress out some members of Generation Z who prefer the immediacy of chat apps over a teeming inbox. The old electronic postal system has its fans, who may prefer its slowness or usefulness for organizing the digital paper trail. If you often plow through your inbox on your phone, here are a few of the time-savings you can make.
You can take control of your inbox with your thumb thanks to the controls in the mail app. For example, you can assign one action to the left and another to the right. It's always an option to remove.
In the Gmail app, you can tap the menu icon in the upper- left corner, select the settings you want, and choose Swipe actions. The change button can be used to select an action for either the left or right motion. The wording of the iOS version is different.
If you want to set up your Swipe actions in Mail, you need to tap the Settings icon on the home screen of your phone. The Swipe Left and Swipe Right functions have actions you can assign to them.
Do you want to remove all the messages at once? If you want to remove a message from your inbox, tap the icon next to it and then tap the trash icon. In Mail, tap the Edit button first, then select the messages, and then tap Trash in the lower-right corner of the screen.
When new mail arrives, your phone's notifications settings can tell you. If you want a different way to look at recent messages, you can add a mailwidget to your home screen.
Press an empty area of the home screen until the menu appears. If you want to use Gmail, you need to select it, then slide it to the place you want it on the home screen.
Pressing your finger on an empty area of the home screen will cause the icons to wiggle, then tap the + button in the upper- left corner. If you use it, you can enter "mail" in the Search Widgets box, which will bring up the option for either email or Gmail. Make your selection, then tap the Add Widget button on the next screen.
You can long-press the inbox preview to see more of a message and get an actions menu to reply, forward or flag it.
When you are waiting for a meeting, it is a good time to manage your mail. There are a number of productivity features in most mail apps.
The paper clip icon at the top of the screen is where you can add an attachment to a new email. You can add a message to your to-do list by tapping into the three-dot More menu. Do you want to respect office hours and send a message at a later time? Schedule Send is a menu in the upper-right corner of the screen that you can tap after you compose the text.
To add an attachment in the Mail app, you need to start a new message and tap a blank area. You can attach a large file with Apple's Mail Drop feature, which can send an attachment as large as 5 megabytes. To attach a document to a message, tap the square icon to the right of the camera icon. Do you need to sign that file? You can mark it up with the pen icon.
A steady flow of messages from organizations and merchants can cause inbox overload. If you decide you no longer want to read these missives, scroll down to the bottom of the message and look for a link tounsubscribe or change your email preferences. These options are included in most legitimate companies.
An Unsubscribe button can be found at the top of a mailing list message. If you tap the button, you will be able to confirm your intention to leave the list.
