Losing your photos can be a catastrophe for many people because they are the most important data stored on their phone.
There are a few ways to get your photos back even if you accidentally deleted them.
We will discuss the methods and explain some safeguards you can take to keep your photos safe.
The photo folder in the Photos app is the same as the Recycle Bin on your computer. The photos have been deleted for 30 days.
It is easy to recover a recently deleted photo until it is deleted permanently. Here is how to do it.
1. The Photos app is open.
2. There are albums on the bottom menu.
Go down until you reach the utilities section.
Select at the top-right of the screen.
5. You can choose to return every photo to your phone.
6. Recover is in the lower-right corner.
If you want to recover all of the photos from your deleted folder, tap Recover All instead.
If your photos are already gone from the Recently Deleted folder, you may be able to get them back by restoring your phone from a previous backup.
The disadvantage of this approach is that all of your deleted files will be recovered from iCloud Drive, which you might not want to do. It might be worth it if the backup you want to restore is recent.
You can easily recover photos you uploaded to iCloud by using your device or the website. Follow these steps if you use iCloud to back up your phone.
1. If something goes wrong, or you don't like the content of the older backup, you can return to your current configuration by backing up your phone to iCloud.
2. After the backup is complete, you can perform a factory reset and restore your phone from a backup that is old enough to include the photos you have lost.
3. The Photos app will show you if the photos you lost were recovered. You can either restore an older backup or return to your most recent backup.
If the older backup has photos that you don't like, you can try uploading them to an external cloud service such as Dropbox, or email them to yourself.
Most people use iCloud to backup and restore their phones, but if you still use iTunes, restoring from a backup is pretty straightforward.
1. Click the iPhone icon in the upper- left corner of the iTunes window if you connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC with macOS Mojave or earlier.
The Summary tab is on the left.
Click on the backup section to restore it.
4. You can choose the backup you want to use.
5. The Photos app will show you if the photos you lost were recovered. You can either restore from an older backup or return to the most recent backup.
1. If you have a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15 or above, open Finder.
2. Attach your phone to your computer.
3. When it appears, click on your device in the left hand menu.
Click to restore backup.
5. You can choose which backup date you want to use.
6. Click to restore.
If you use a cloud service like Dropbox or OneDrive, you can create a separate backup of all your photos, which will be synchronized with a folder on your computer.
If you don't already use one of these, you can install the app on your phone to automatically back up your photos.
You can restore a backup of your photos from the two cloud services.
1. You can open the folder on your computer that contains the photos from your phone.
2. You can open your collection in a web browser.
3. You can restore the photos from the folder to the browser. They will be uploaded to the cloud and then sync with your phone.
If the photos are missing on your phone but you haven't deleted them, they could be hidden. You will need to unhide them if that is the case.
If you have updated your phone to the latest version of the software, hiding and unhiding photos will work.
1. The Photos app is open.
The albums are on the bottom menu.
3. Go to the Utilities section and tap Hidden. You will see 0 next to the Hidden folder if there aren't any photos in it.
4. On the top-right of the screen, tap Select.
5. You can choose to return every photo to your phone.
6. The Share button is on the bottom of the screen.
7. Unhide in the options below the photos and share them with your friends.
