FAA records show that the billionaire also owns two G550 planes. The first jet Musk ever purchased was the Dassault 900B.

The first G550 jet was registered to a shell company with ties to Space X. He bought another jet in September of 2021.

According to the FAA registry, Musk's jets are registered number N272BG and N502SX. The jets were registered to two different companies, indicating that Musk bought the planes before they were used.

The G550 was manufactured by Gulfstream in the early 2000s. A company spokesman told Insider that the US aviation company no longer makes the G550.

In an interview with Chris Anderson at the TED Conference in April, Musk said he lives a frugal lifestyle but makes an exception for his fleet of private jets.

If I don't use the plane, then I have less hours to work.

Insider did not get a reply from Musk or the company.
