The Boston Bruins have ruled out defenseman Hampus Lindholm for Friday's Game 3 of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Carolina Hurricanes.

During the second period of Wednesday's Game 2, Lindholm was injured in a violent collision with Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov. Lindholm was getting the puck along the boards when Svechnikov hit him.

Lindholm was unable to get up on his own and needed help from the Bruins training staff to get to the dressing room. He would not return due to a lower-body injury, and Boston coach Bruce Cassidy said after the game that Lindholm was not doing well.

Cassidy confirmed Thursday that Lindholm made the return trip to Boston after being unsure if he would be allowed to travel.

The Hurricanes will wait and see if Raanta is healthy enough to play on Friday, when they will attempt to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series. Bruins forward David Pastrnak ran Raanta over in the crease in the first period.

Raanta appeared to be bleeding from his mouth as he left, but Carolina coach Rod BrindAmour said Raanta did not enter concussion protocol. He was able to do a workout on Thursday, but his availability for Game 3 had not yet been determined.

We put him on the ice today and it was a good sign, but he is still not fully recovered. Hopefully he will be okay to get in there, but I am not sure at this point.

Raanta was out with an injury and Pyotr Kochetkov stepped in to make his NHL playoff debut. Raanta has been the backup as Carolina waits for Andersen to recover from a lower-body injury.

Kochetkov drew the ire of Brad Marchand late in Game 2, when Marchand gave Kochetkov a slash after the whistle. Marchand was fined for the incident.

The Bruins will be making a change at the position in Game 3. Cassidy and Ullmark played in the first and second games of the series and Cassidy produced an.860 save percentage. Jeremy Swayman will be the Bruins' starter for Game 3.

Swayman had a.912 save percentage and 2.41 goals-against average in the regular season.

inus has been fine. Cassidy said that they need to do a better job at the other end. That is where we are right now. Carolina is not giving up many goals. I am not saying that Ullmark is the reason we are down. Swayman will be there. Hopefully, he is up for the challenge.
