A man is in jail after opening the overwing emergency exit, walking onto the wing, and jumping onto the ground as his plane neared the gate.

There was an incident on the United Airlines flight from San Diego to Chicago. The redeye from California arrived in Chicago at 4:30am. A man jumped down from the wing as the aircraft taxied to the gate, after opening the overwing exit in row 21.

The man was held until law enforcement arrived. He is currently being held. The arrival of the aircraft was delayed by 20 minutes.

United Airlines had no comment.

“This morning United flight 2478  was taxiing toward the gate at Chicago O’Hare when a passenger opened an aircraft door and exited the plane. Our ground crew stopped the individual outside of the aircraft, and the person is now with law enforcement. The plane then arrived at the gate and all passengers deplaned safely. The safety of our customers and crew is our highest priority.”

If the emergency slide raft deployed, I would hope United would come after the passenger for the huge cost of reseting that.

CONCLUSION

I would like to know why the man couldn't wait an extra five minutes until the plane arrived. Is there too much alcohol? Did his seatmate stink? The man now faces a lot of trouble for his foolish actions.
