The Rays and Feeding Tampa Bay will provide food, bananas and water today at Tropicana Field for those in need due to Hurricane Irma.
The items – including MREs (Meals Ready to Eat, similar to military rations) will be available starting at 5 p.m. in Lot 6. Entry is off First Avenue South or the main Tropicana Field entrance off Ninth Street S.
The Rays had already announced plans to host a food drive with Feeding Tampa Bay at this weekend’s games.
Fans who donate unopened cans and non-perishable food items will get a voucher for two complimentary tickets to a 2018 home game (some will be exsluded), with collection areas outside of Gate 1 and inside Gates 1 and 3.
The groups say most needed are canned, ready-to-eat items with pull-tops (vegetables, fruit), protein in pouches or pull-top cans (tuna, beef stew, chili, canned chicken), snacks (protein bars, granola bars), and peanut butter. Also, non-food items such as toiletries, paper goods, diapers and cleaning supplies (mops, mop buckets, brooms, bleach wipes, bleach, garbage bags, bug spray).
