OMAHA, Neb. —One of the biggest fashion events in the Midwest kicks off Monday night as Omaha Fashion Week returns to showcase local fashion designs, artwork and music.
The red carpet was laid at the Omaha Design Center. Hundreds of chairs were placed around the freshly polished runway, all under sparkling chandelier lights.
"The quality, we feel this year, is the very, very best," said Nick Hudson, founder and co-producer of the event. "We’re just blown away. We have a panel of experts who work with the designers, and they’re just blown away by how good the designs are."
Now in its ninth year, Hudson said the event has grown enormously from when it first started.
"I’d sort of thought, ‘Gosh, we’ve got all these talented people, why don’t we put on a big stage and see what happens?’ And the local people in Omaha just really supported it," Hudson said.
With nearly two-thirds of the talent being students, events allowing them to showcase their creativity helps. There’s also the possibility of winning thousands of dollars in prize money, which is saved for the grand finale.
"Saturday we’ve got 12 designers, really sort of the best of the best, and they can get a $10,000 prize package from that," Hudson said.
The event runs until Saturday.
