‘Game of Thrones’ Will Film Multiple Endings to Fight Spoilers

HBO says it’s planning to film multiple versions of the Game of Thrones series finale in an effort to thwart spoilers.

HBO has used this strategy before, filming several fake scenes in order to confuse the paparazzi and would-be leakers. Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, has said that he once filmed upwards of 15 additional scenes that were never used in the final cut.

In anticipation of the finale, the series’ producers have commissioned multiple versions of the show’s final episode. They will be shooting four different versions of the finale to safeguard from leaks from the paparazzi, cast and crew. HBO president Casey Bloys addressed the matter to student and faculty at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA last week, as The Morning Call reports.

“I know in Game of Thrones, the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really knows what happens. You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.”

With hackers leaking a script from Game of Thrones season seven and threatening more leaks back in August, it’s only fitting that HBO is taking more precautions to prevent a leak of what is set to be one of the most anticipated television events ever.
