VADODARA: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had another faux pas moment on Thursday when he accidentally entered a women’s toilet in Gujarat’s Chhota Udepur district.
A video of Gandhi coming out of a ladies washroom has since gone viral.
Gandhi visited the district to address tribal students at Durbar Hall as a part of his three-day ‘Navsarjan Yatra’.
Afterwards, as he headed towards the toilet, he ended up stepping into the one meant for women with a signboard in Gujarati language that read ‘Mahilao Maate Shauchalay’ (ladies washroom).
Locals present at the venue said that the Congress leader ‘accidentally’ walked into the washroom that was on the left side. Sources said it may have happened as neither he nor the guards understood Gujarati.
The locals and the media personnel were then hurriedly moved out of the place to avoid any further embarrassment.
The Congress, however, denied that any such incident occurred and instead called it a conspiracy hatched by the BJP.
“The pictures show that Rahul just walked by the ladies washroom but didn’t enter it. The photos are being deliberately twisted to show the Congress leader in bad light,” said state Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi.
Doshi accused the BJP of making the photographs viral.
“Rahul Gandhi had an extremely successful tour of Gujarat as he drew huge crowds everywhere. The BJP is rattled due to his popularity and hence it is resorting to such tricks to divert people’s attention. We are trying to find out who resorted to this mischief,” Doshi told TOI.
Those present at the spot claimed that other senior Congress leaders too entered the same washroom later due to confusion.
