A gunman opened fire Wednesday at a high school in Spokane, Washington, killing one and injuring three others.

The incident occurred at Freeman High School at approximately 10 a.m. local time.

The deceased is a student, local NBC affiliate KHQ reported.

KXLY confirmed with Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane that the three other victims were “pediatric patients” who were said to be in “satisfactory condition.”

Sacred Heart chief physician Dr. Jeff Collins said the hospital prepares for mass shooting incidents.

“We’re all hands on deck,” Collins said, according to The Spokesman-Review. “We train for this regularly.”

Police said they have the gunman in custody.

“The shooter is in the back seat of a patrol car right now,” Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said at the scene, the Seattle Times reported.

The nearby Spokane and Central Valley school districts placed schools in the area on lockdown after receiving reports of the shooting.

Due to a reported shooting near Freeman High School, all southside SPS schools are currently in lockdown. Updates as information allows.

By 11:30 a.m., Spokane Public Schools lifted its lockdowns.
